Allowing Anger to Rule Your World

Making Room For GodAnger. Bitterness. Jealousy. Hatred.

These feelings can tear away at your very being. These feelings can form a wall between you and God that seems impossible to break down. When these feelings overcome you, then it becomes too easy to push God to the side and set up your own agenda. An agenda that can sometimes become deadly to our soul and can seep into our families eating away at their faith too.

(Read 2 Samuel 11 – story of David and Bathsheba)

I have seen many families break apart because these four emotions have seeped into their households. I have walked into houses where you can feel these emotions building up in the home. It is tense, yet most families won’t recognize it even in their own home. It hides away, coming out only when they least expect it; only when they turn their backs.

It starts simple. You begin to turn your back more and more on God. You allow anger to take over. You find yourself only thinking of the bad. You can find nothing good about anything or anyone. You stop going to church. Everything seems to make you angry. You begin to deliberately turn your back on God’s whispers. You see Him as the one who cannot help you. You see Him as the one who put you in this situation. You are mad at Him.

( Read Exodus 7-11 – story of the plagues that were inflicted on Pharaoh who allowed his heart to be hardened)

He never leaves your side, but He knows your heart has hardened. He loves you even through your anger. He gives you little nudges and big nudges, but you choose to ignore them. It is easier now to just see the bad.

The only way to melt your heart is to humble yourself and your pride has grown so big that you just cannot possibly imagine doing that.

Relying on God is never easy. Sometimes we have to push aside all of our desires (or what we think we need) and allow God to show us the way. Sometimes we have to let go of our pride and allow God to humble us. Sometimes we have to allow others to look like they “win” yet God will show us his side is the only side that truly wins.

God never wants us to do anything alone. He does not want us to take things into our own hands. He wants to help us, but we have to let Him in. We have to allow all of that anger to melt away. We have to allow our pride to move to the side. We must allow God to infiltrate our soul.

Pray. Listen. Push your agenda aside. Choose humility. Gain your soul.

Ephesians 6:10-18 (The Message) God is strong, and he wants you strong. So take everything the Master has set out for you, well-made weapons of the best materials. And put them to use so you will be able to stand up to everything the Devil throws your way. This is no afternoon athletic contest that we’ll walk away from and forget about in a couple of hours. This is for keeps, a life-or-death fight to the finish against the Devil and all his angels.

Be prepared. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet. Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. Learn how to apply them. You’ll need them throughout your life. God’s Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare.

  1. It is important to remain soft toward the Lord when the world is so hard and can easily harden our hearts. Thank you for the reminder as we begin a new week.
