My wedding day and the day I gave birth to each of my children were much anticipated events for me. I am sure you all can relate. The excitement was so overwhelming. I practically leaped for joy.
Luke 1:41-44 …and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, “Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does this happen to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For at that moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.”
That is the kind of joy I felt. So much excitement, love and happiness all at once to the point that my heart could just burst! After greeting Elizabeth, Mary bursts out in praise. I can just imagine Mary belting out this beautiful song of praise. You know, kind of like Mandisa and her “Good Morning” song. You just cannot help but smile when you hear it.
I know you just want to get up and dance around the room. Take that joy and remember that it is through God that all things are possible. It is only by God’s grace that I met my wonderful husband Pete and we conceived five beautiful children (three of which are with us here on earth and two of which are in heaven with their Maker).
Try not to dwell on yesterday, but focus on today. Focus on the joy that God has given you at this very moment. Some of us may have deep struggles and finding joy can be challenging, but focus on this moment. Look out the window at nature, listen for birds singing, listen to your children this morning, hear the music playing – find something to make you smile.
My prayer today for all of you this Friday is to get a little glimpse of that joy that I felt on my big days in life, and even better the joy that Elizabeth and her baby, John the Baptist, felt when Jesus and Mary entered the room. Can you imagine?
Sometimes our life experiences and struggles can overtake our joy. It is hard to get it back. I know for me when I am in a bad place, I have a difficult time shaking myself out of it. BUT if Christ Jesus walked into my house right now, my sadness would become happiness. Okay, so maybe I would panic a little that my house is in such disarray, but all and all I would be joyful. My frown would be turned around. My anger would dissipate. So this morning, take this song, let it change your life. Allow Mandisa to help you find that joy again. Let it take you back to that joyful experience in your life – whether it is your wedding day, the day you gave birth to your children, the day you went on vacation with your friends, or whatever that day is for you. Let it return for just a moment to offer you a little bit of hope.
Everyday, Jesus wants us to experience His peace and joy. If you cannot find it at your office, in your home or in your car, then my suggestion would be to play this song. Fill your heart with that joy and bask in the Glory of God. Take it as a gift.
