Daily Dose of Doubt

Making Room For God“Mom, I hate writing.” Katie spewed out these words as she hopped into the car with me after school. It is never a good start to the afternoon when she tells me how much she hates something.

“Do you think it is hard?” I asked

“No, I just don’t like it. I don’t get it.”

“You know Kate, I am sure I could help you if you bring it home.”

“No you can’t. You won’t understand it because you don’t go to school.”

Hmm. True, I don’t go to school, but since my livelihood is writing, somehow I am pretty sure I could figure it out. Kate seemed pretty adamant that I did not know how to write. Her doubt was becoming quite clear to me. God knows when Kate sets her mind on something, it is pointless to argue, so I chose not to go any further with the discussion. Doubt was hindering her success. It was making her fearful of the challenge in front of her. It was obstructing her progress.

Doubt does this to me everyday. I doubt that someone can tackle a challenge in the same way I could. I doubt that my kids will remember everything for school. I doubt that the weather will be nice for my kids’ activities. I doubt that the repair man will show up at my house on time. I doubt that I will find a subject to blog about. I doubt that I have enough time in the day to accomplish my check list. Doubt, doubt and more doubt. You see what I mean? Doubt is a hindrance. It stops me from being or feeling successful.

Anything that stops you from being or feeling like you can achieve is evil. No thought focused on God will create doubt. Just the opposite. Thoughts focused on God give us energy to tackle a project. God gives us the strength for success or at least allows us to see success on the horizon.

Doubt comes from the devil. It is sabotage to stymie God’s plan. When we allow doubt to sabotage our thoughts, we allow evil to sin. God’s plan becomes something that is impossible.

Read these lyrics from the song “Nothing Is Impossible” by Planetshakers

Through You I can do anything
I can do all things
‘Cause it’s You who gives me strength
Nothing is impossible
Through You blind eyes are open
Strongholds are broken
I am living by faith
Nothing is impossible
I’m not gonna live by what I see
I’m not gonna live by what I feel
Deep down I know that You’re here with me
And I know that You can do anything
I believe, I believe
I believe, I believe in you

Take on this motto today. Push doubt to the side. Acknowledge your doubtful thoughts by telling God you believe in Him. Even though you may not always see clearly that God is there, deep down you know He is present. Move your feelings to the side, and let God move you toward what seems impossible. With God all things are possible.
